Boris Johnson has moved to hold control over the Treasury in an unexpected reshuffle that pushed his Chancellor Sajid Javid to quit.
Johnson staged the control power over No 11 by giving a final proposal to his Chancellor to fire every one of his advisers – a step that Javid later stated: “no self-regarding minister” could support.
Boris Johnson appointed Rishi Sunak as the new Chancellor. Javid’s exit comes following months of pressures between his team and Johnson’s topmost adviser, Dominic Cummings, who wanted more authority over the economic policy and expenditure plans.
It marked the most startling moment in a terrible reshuffling of the cabinet where loyal Brexiters were acquired at the expense of ministers seen as being unfaithful or defiant.
